1. Basic Principle of Color-Changing Cups: Color-changing cups change color because of a material in their color-changing coating—color-changing microcapsules—which undergo color changes in response to temperature fluctuations. The color-changing material in these microcapsules is generally referred to as color-changing powder; it consists of a color-hiding agent, a color-revealing agent, and a sensitizer (or desensitizer). When the temperature changes, the color-revealing agent releases protons, and the color-hiding agent absorbs electrons, causing a color change. Of course, this color-changing system requires a specific solvent environment to function. These color-changing pigments must undergo encapsulation processing to form color-changing microcapsules or color-changing powder before they can be put into regular use.

For the decal screen printing process, the color-changing principle of the cup is as follows: a layer of special microcapsule color-changing material is applied over the base pattern on the outer surface of the cup (in the cold state, it appears dark—such as black, dark blue, or brown—covering the underlying pattern). When hot water or hot coffee is poured in, the microcapsule structure undergoes a physical change, transforming from the dark state at low temperatures to a transparent state, thereby allowing the underlying pattern to gradually and magically emerge. When the hot liquid cools, the microcapsules revert from their transparent state to the dark state they had when cold.


3. For the heat transfer process, the color-changing principle of the cup is as follows: The exterior of the cup is coated with a color-changing layer containing color-changing microcapsules. Under normal conditions, the cup appears dark, such as black, blue, or red. Through heat transfer baking, the heat transfer ink penetrates the color-changing layer to form a pattern. When cooled, the exterior appears dark due to the mixture of the dark color-changing layer and the ink. When hot water is added, the microcapsule structure in the color-changing layer undergoes a physical change, transforming from the dark state at room temperature to a transparent state. This allows the image within the color-changing coating to gradually and magically emerge. When the hot water cools, the microcapsules revert from their transparent state at high temperatures back to the dark state at room temperature.
